A GAY RAF girl about to wed her partner has been turned down for married quarters at her base.
Senior Aircraftswoman Sam Wyatt, 26, fell for massage therapist Christa McKay, 25, on an 18-month RAF posting in Canada.
Sam, who served in Gulf War II and helps load cargo and passengers at the giant Brize Norton base in Oxfordshire, is marrying Christa in Toronto at the end of the month.
Same sex weddings are legal in Canada so she applied for married quarters at Brize Norton.
Even though there are scores of empty married quarters at the base, Sam, from Cornwall, was turned down because the Ministry of Defence refuses to recognise gay marriages.
Last night Sam — who joined the RAF six years ago — said: “I think the MoD are being totally unfair."
"Gays are allowed to be in the military now — so why can’t they recognise same sex marriages?"
Sam, who earns £16,000 a year, is planning to quit the RAF three years early unless the MoD drop the ban.
Christa said: "If Sam was in the Canadian armed forces there would be no problems." A senior RAF spokesman said: "The RAF has no issue whatsoever with SAC Wyatt's personal life as lesbian relationships have been acknowledged since 2000."
"However, same sex marriages are not recognised in UK law and under current MoD regulations same sex couples are not entitled to family quarters."
